A friend just returned from a week in Chengdu on a business trip. He
described it as "a bit like Reading and those other M4 corridor towns." But
on a vast scale, obviously. From his hotel room he could see dozens of
cranes building more hotels and apartment blocks - well, just. The smog
obscured the view a lot of the time.
