Earthcaching is apparently the new thing. It's like geocaching, but the
treasure you find is somehow related to the earth science / geology /
geography of the place where it's been hidden. We never had this sort of
fun in geog lessons in my day.

The top earthcache (as voted by earthcachers) is this beach in Hawaii where
the sand is green due to a collapsed volcanic cinder cone that was rich in
olivine. Now added to my "to visit" list.

My weekend involved lots of driving and socialising. We went to Brean Down
for walking and beaching, then we went to Dorset to see friends, christen a
newly-built summerhouse, and have a barbecue. We got home late Sunday
afternoon, and a friend called me to say "I've got a spare ticket to see
Elvis Costello in Bristol tonight. Wanna come?"

Did I wanna come, he says.

Elvis might be getting on a bit (late 50s) but his voice remains
incredible. Powerful, emotional, sincere. It helped that my friend's
tickets were the best Colston Hall could offer - we were sat right in front
of Elvis' mic stand, and could watch the beads of sweat dripping from his
earlobes. An amazing and unforgettable show.
